Why Do Skin Tags Keep Appearing in the Same Places?

It's completely normal to notice small, soft growths appearing in areas where your skin folds or rubs against clothing, like your neck, underarms and bra lines. While they are harmless, they can be frustrating and sometimes cause discomfort in daily life.
Skin tags form because loose collagen and small blood vessels beomce trapped in thicker pieces of skin, often due to repeated friction. New skin tags often form in the same areas because these higher friction areas are constant, such as along bra lines or collar bands.
It is a common misconception that skin tags are contagious: they cannot be spread or passed from one person to another. Freezing kits or DIY removal often fail to remove the whole skin tag, which can cause scarring, regrowth or infection.
At my Nottingham clinic, I use techniques such as shave excision or cautery to remove the whole fleshy growth. I can often remove multiple skin tags under local anaesthetic in one appointment.
