What does it mean to be a CQC-registered clinic?
Dr Jenna Wa Skin Surgery is fully CQC-registered. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health services in England. Being registered means the clinic meets strict standards for safety, cleanliness, patient care, and clinical governance. For you as a patient, it means you can feel confident knowing the service is regularly monitored and held to high professional standards.
Can I have the procedure done at the same appointment?
Yes, we are very proud to offer the initial consultation and procedure at the same appointment in the majority of cases.
Is the initial consultation fee refundable if I cancel my appointment?
Yes, if you cancel more than 48 hours before the appointment you will receive a refund of the fee, minus an administration cost.
Do you treat medical dermatology conditions, like eczema?
No, the clinic does not treat medical skin conditions, such as dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, acne, psoriasis or rashes.
Do you send lesions for histology? Why is this important?
Histology involves sending the removed skin lesion to a laboratory for microscopic examination. This is important because even lesions that appear benign or have been there for a long time can sometimes show unexpected changes under the microscope. Histology confirms the exact diagnosis, ensures complete removal, and provides peace of mind. In some cases, it can also detect early skin cancers that might not be obvious on visual inspection alone.
Will I experience pain after the procedure?
You may experience some mild discomfort or low level pain. If able to, you can take regular paracetamol. However, if you need more pain relief than this, please ring the clinic or 111 for advice.
How do I look after the wound afterwards?
Keep the wound clean and dry for at least 48 hours to reduce the chance of infection. If the dressing has partly come off, please remove it and keep the wound dry. You can either replace the plaster with a clean one, or leave the wound exposed. Avoid scratching the wound.
I have a scab on my wound, what should I do?
Do not pick off the scab. It will come off naturally when the skin underneath is ready. Simple moisturiser or Vaseline will help with healing and relieve itching.
What activities should I avoid after the procedure?
Try to limit any activities that can stretch the wound. For example, if the wound is on your shoulder, avoid lifting heavy items or going to the gym for 2-4 weeks. In all cases, it is also best to avoid swimming for 2-4 weeks to reduce the chance of infection.
My wound is bleeding, what should I do?
The wound may bleed a little after the procedure. Often this does not need any intervention. If bleeding soaks through the dressing, apply constant pressure for 10 minutes. If this does not stop the bleeding, please ring 111 or go to a local treatment centre for urgent medical assessment.
Can the wound become infected?
Wounds only become infected very rarely. The symptoms of infection include moderate to severe pain, swelling and smelly thick pus-like discharge. If you experience these symptoms, please see or speak to a pharmacist or doctor for advice.
