Recurrent Cysts - Why Squeezing Doesn't Work

Have you noticed how squeezing a cyst at home only makes it go away for a few weeks?

This is why it doesn't provide a long term solution:

• The sac is still there. A cyst is a small sac under the skin that produces keratin. Popping it empties the contents temporarily but leaves the sac intact, which refills over time.

• It can become infected. Squeezing the cyst can push the bacteria deeper, which can turn a simple cyst into an infection or abscess.

• Scarring. Repeated squeezing creates scar tissue, which makes removal harder in the future.

The only way to remove a cyst permanently is to get rid of the sac. I do this under local anaesthetic to numb the area, make a small cut, remove the whole cyst including sac, and then close it with sutures.
