Seborrheic Wart Removal in Nottingham

Seborrheic warts are also known as seborrhoea keratosis, wisdom spots or senile warts. They are harmless growths on the skin that commonly occur as people get older.

What are they? Seborrheic warts are are harmless warty growths on the skin. They are caused by a build up of skin cells commonly occurs with age. The medical term is seborrheic keratosis. Colloquially, people often refer to them as seb K, wisdom spots, senile warts or age spots.


Are seborrheic warts dangerous? The good news is that seborrheic warts are harmless. However, because of their varying shades of colour, they can sometimes be confused with skin cancer. If your lesion has changed size, shape, or colour, or it is itchy, bleeding or painful then you should book an appointment to see a doctor.


How do we remove your seborrheic warts? The different treatment methods that Dr Wa will use to remove your seborrheic warts include electrosurgery (hyfrecation) and shave excision. Dr Wa will discuss the different options at the consultation and find the most suitable method for removing your age spots.


Can I have my treatment on the same day? You can often have your treatment straight after the assessment. However, this depends on various factors, including the complexity of the procedure. For this reason, it is helpful if you mention where your seborrheic wart is and its size when you book your appointment.


Will I stay awake during the procedure? Yes. We only use local anaesthetic to numb the area of skin where the seborrheic wart is. This also gives you good pain relief for after the procedure. You will be able to eat and drink as normal, and some people even go straight back to work after!


How long does mole removal take? Generally, the procedure takes between 30-60 minutes.


Will I need stitches? This depends on what treatment method is used but stitches are not generally needed.


How do I look after the wound afterwards? The wound should be kept clean and dry for 48 hours. You should avoid picking it and limit sun exposure if possible. Watch for redness, swelling, increasing pain or discharge as this could indicate infection. If you notice any of these symptoms then please see a medical professional for advice.
