Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy

What is it? A special device is used to precisely apply a very cold gas to the lesion, which destroys it by freezing.

Is a local anaesthetic injection necessary? NO. Local anaesthetic is NOT required for this technique.

Does it leave scar? Yes, all techniques will cause some scarring. However, cryotherapy produces minimal scarring. Sometimes, hypopigmentation (lighter colour) may occur, particularly in patients with darker skin types.

What is the healing time? In the first few days after cryotherapy, the treated lesion may blister and swell before turning red around day 4-10. After this, the lesion will scab over and look dark. When the scab falls off, a new layer of skin will replace the lesion. The whole healing time can take up to 6 weeks.

How long does it take? This technique is quick to do, and usually takes 5-30 minutes depending on the size and location of the lesion.
